Charcoal Portrait

I drew this as a second attempt after a recent eye surgery. This was done at Incamminati in about 2 hours with vine charcoal and a charcoal pencil. It is 18x12 inches on Canson paper.

A portrait sketch using carbon pencil and sanguine Conte.  This was drawn in about 30 minutes.  The size is 14x11.

Winter and Summer Self-Portraits

Two self-portraits in pastel.  These were drawn when I lived in New York.  Both are 25x19 inches on Canson Mi-tientes paper.

A Small Pencil Portrait

"Waiting"  Pencil 7x5 inches.  I drew this at the Market East Train Station in Philadelphia.  I had the time to take it more to a drawing level.  I have found that sketching people in the train station, where people are in anticipation or deep thought about where they are, or where they were, or where they are going is always interesting.

Some Sketches from Montreal

This is a rapid charcoal sketched in Montreal when I was teaching in that area some time ago.  It was drawn with vine charcoal.  Unfortunately, it was drawn on newsprint and the original no longer exists.

About Live Portrait Drawing

I draw portraits from life in public places. They can be drawn in charcoal, conte crayon, or pastel. These are mostly QUICK SKETCH, about 10-20 minutes, but longer sittings of 1-3 hours can be arranged.
