Charcoal Portrait

I drew this as a second attempt after a recent eye surgery. This was done at Incamminati in about 2 hours with vine charcoal and a charcoal pencil. It is 18x12 inches on Canson paper.

From Studio Incamminati Open Studio

I sketched this model in Conte Crayon at Studio Incamminati in Philadelphia on Sept. 14, 2014.  It felt great to return to the studio setting after working impromptu with quick sketching for the last several months.  This was done in less than 3 hours.

Man at the Bar

This was sketched last night.  He noticed me sketching others and decided to ignore me. Little did he realize that I captured his pose and attitude anyway.

A Reluctant Model

Drawing at random sometimes discovers  reluctant models.  I recommend that if you  "sniper draw," keep it quiet. Do not show a "drive-by" sketch and expect a friendly response.

Sketch of Drama

"The Argument".  This is one of my favorite sketches.

I captured this in an establishment just outside of Philly. I thought that the coldness of the woman's stare and the indifference of the man said a lot.

Homage to Raphael Soyer

My self portrait and Raphael Soyer's self portrait.  I have admired the work of Raphael Soyer since my first days as an art student in 1969. His advice to "go draw the people on the bridges" still inspires me today.
